Hallowed Ground

@skyloverpoetry

I carved a hole in my chest
to see what had become of my heart –
Expecting to find all hollow

I saw the cavity was filled with seeds
tiny as distant stars –
and multiple universes

platelets in a microcosmic stream
ever expanding to the unknown edges
of my interior space –

Set adrift like dandelions
the neutrinos of my extant love
dissipated into the ether –

I do not know if somewhere else
they might take root and do someone good.

Something like a sonnet for Marian's Just One Word (Hollow) prompt in The Imaginary Garden.

I saw the cavity was filled with seeds ...
I do not know if somewhere else
they might take root and do someone good"

Beautiful! ... And of course they will. <3

  2. This is absolutely exquisite, Kerry!❤️ Our hearts are stronger than we give them credit for! Especially love this part; "I saw the cavity was filled with seeds tiny as distant stars – and multiple universes." Wow!๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

  5. Started for me on a note of Stephen Crane and descended from there in a deeply satisfying whalefall -- a grandly nourishing death. Gorgeous.

    1. So long as death remains nourishing, my work here is done.

  6. Our hearts are more determined than we give them credit for, especially when filled with distant stars.

  8. I really love that this heart wasn't only still beating, but ready to grow into more. The things we discover, when we take a chance (or a look) and let go.

  9. I love the word precision here, -
it's both concrete and yet dreamy - and startling combinations which add the image that you've planted in my mind -
the miracle of miracles, of the body, the heart, the infinite complexities, the mysteries .... and stars and galaxies and dandelion wishes? well, I'm the dandelion contessa, so you had me married to the poem right there.

Stay cool and hope the weather gives you a break, so you can catch a breath and feel more refreshed.

  10. I love the idea of seeds like tiny stars that might take flight and lead whole other lives. Cool. Loved the opening lines so much!

  11. I love this Kerry, because of your word choice, your metaphors, and most of all because of the hopefulness in your words.

  12. Ooh, these microcosms and universes within the heart have such a primordial aspect to them — I love your beautiful metaphors and images, binding us into this journey beyond time and matter.

"Set adrift like dandelions/the neutrinos of my extant love/dissipated into the ether –": Wonderful writing, Kerry!

  13. This beautiful, Kerry. I loved there being hope found in the heart's hollow. Also the imagery of it's seeds being released as dandelion's being blown into the winds.

  14. This is quite vivid. I love the image of seeds in the cavity growing elsewhere and becoming 'more than'

  15. One can only hope... hoping that, holding that hope, puts off its own eventuality by a bit, right? Beautiful
