Heartfruit

for Jaime

@skyloverpoetry

You are to me
the true tether – the indivisible
umbilical attaching moon
to the ground beneath my feet –
the fruit in the heart
of the flower before it buds –
the certainty
that high tide will follow low –
There is no poem as perfect
as the curl of your fingers in mine
on the first day

A birthday poem, in 55 words, for my youngest daughter.

Toni's prompt on Real Toads, asks poets to Step into the Void. I believe this poem speaks of the Two Dimensional Realm - 六畳の間 (roku jo no ma)

    1. Thank you, Sherry. I find it difficult to write from my own personal emotions.. somehow a poetic voice is easier but this was for a special occasion.

  5. This is so beautiful and perfect. If I were to quote the parts that me most, I would quote the whole poem. Heartfruit...the title speaks to the love between mother and child.

The title, the ending, and this are my favorites:

    umbilical attaching moon"

  12. Your words are incredibly beautiful Kerry, so incredibly beautiful that I want to read them forever.
This is definitely an ‘I wish I’d written this’ – but I never could, for I don’t have the skill.
I love it and thank you, and also a belated Happy Birthday to your lucky daughter – so lucky to have you.

  14. Ah, what a beautiful birthday poem!
I love the tender caress of this poem -- it is sweet and pleasant like an evening breeze. I also loved the tethering that is the umbilical between the moon and the ground beneath your feet. It's wonderful in all its elements, Kerry. <3

  16. I love the beauty of the final image, the power of a gesture that seems so small, but... that anyone who has had the pleasure understands means everything.
