Over? Never. I'd never trust someone who asks me to go against my basic nature to fly. However for the one who respects my wings and the need to feel the air flow around me, we can talk.
The open sky wins every time. Smiles. I love the image of the man with a bird in his hand. I knew one like that once. I still see him, smiling at me, a small bird lighting on his hand.
The open sky wins every time. That is why I married my husband - he did not restrict my sky. I am the holder and healer of birds in this family. I trust me implicitly.
I am inclined to agree with others – distrust him if he wants you to forsake the sky. But presumably the bird was on his hand by choice and could fly off any time it wished. Perhaps he showed you the bird in order to demonstrate that you could indeed trust him. The way the question is put is alarming, though.
I enjoyed the commentary on this poem - since it is so open-ended. It seems many are in favour of the open skies, in poetry at least. I think Rosemary had interesting insight into the relationship. I believe that freedom is an illusion - not even birds are free of the flock, free from migratory paths, free from predators.. but no one likes to see a caged bird.
This little bird of a poem, comes with such an ominous feeling to it... I swear I can almost see that man's grin and I don't trust it one bit. I would have a serious conversation with the capture bird before making a decision.
Also, I love this... It reads like the introduction to a story.
Hmm. I'm wondering about that other bird. Sounds like feathers will fly, to me.
ReplyDeleteLOL! That could be a reading of the poem, though I didn't see it at first. Yes, that could complicate matters enormously.
DeleteI have no doubt that he will thrive under your care, Kerry!❤️ Gorgeous artwork as well!
ReplyDeleteI like the way you look at it, Sanaa. Thank you.
DeleteI imagine you flying off together.

ReplyDeleteIf he's a total stranger think it over well before trusting him
ReplyDeleteIt would take time, to get to know the man...and to trust...so much left unsaid. Well done, Kerry!!

ReplyDeleteYou know what they say about a bird in the hand, Kerry...
ReplyDeleteBut maybe the best thing for a bird is to be free,
ReplyDeleteand ride on the wind
singing in fearful thrills.
