This fallout-shelter mentality requires
a love of three things:
Bedrock, can-openers,
and the odour of dirt in confined spaces.
You should comprehend the virtue of trauma,
know a certain risqué joy
in the unashamed sacrifice
and thrive on toxicity, unafraid to measure
the half-life of your human heart’s slow decay.
And forego a happy ending.
Prompts, I have missed....

Very much so Kerry! Aptly described. One has to be schooled in a somewhat a life of deprivation to experience such blessings and be prepared to take it all.

Many thanks for coming over to read, Hank. I agree with you!
DeleteI don't know, I think I'd start digging straight up til I hit something!
ReplyDeletePlease don't hit your head on the foundations of some decayed skyscraper!
Delete"...the half-life of your human heart's slow decay...." Somehow, I think many accomplish this while NOT in a fallout shelter. Always good to read you, Kerry.
ReplyDeleteAh! But yes, Sherry. This is nothing if not metaphoric!
DeleteThis is incredibly deep and intense, Kerry!❤️ I especially like; "unafraid to measure the half-life of your human heart’s slow decay." There is only so much we can endure.
ReplyDeleteYet, endure it we must! Thank you for coming over to read.
Delete... and forego a happy ending. Love that line and of course, whether an actual fallout shelter or one of our own current making - is a line we must all ponder! Is it worth it?
