Apparition
I am the voice in your dreams
the apparition who turns her back
upon the moonless night
and climbs into your solitude,
wraps her weightless legs
around your hips
and combs her fingers
through your troubled mind.
I am your yearning.
Made of flesh and memory,
so close, my scent is upon you.
No wonder, then, why you tremble
when you wake to find me gone.

A new Skylover Wordlist will be shared on the 1st of February.
Smiles.
ReplyDeleteLove this. You sound both scary and irresistible. :)
The words took me in a kind of creepy direction, for sure.
DeleteThank you for sending me your poem. I loved it!
The added artwork is incredible.
DeleteDon't be a stranger, S. ;-)
DeleteThis makes me think about the succubus myths... as a dream and a twister of mind. I might take a stab at the wordlist later.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bjorn. You are most welcome to throw your hat in the ring.
DeleteAwwww I think I recognize you :)
ReplyDeleteNot sure what kind of ghost I will make.. hopefully not one quite so invasive of the dreams of the living!
DeleteJust up from my bed after a poor fireworks-disturbed sleep, this feels dreamlike, incantatory, and magical. It gives me hope that we can all be remembered by at least one other as magical beings, the living, immaterial sendings of love, even as the same may apply in our own memories. I was about to quote some individual lines, but this is one where the whole poem is an organic whole, and each line is a shoot of green in the weary earth. Thanks for the word list, and I hope to be writing to it when I can--I need to add, you have used it superbly here.
ReplyDeleteFireworks are the bane of existence!
DeleteAs I was writing this, I was not sure whether the apparition was entirely loving or a bit sinister. It is a strange one, but the words created this scenario as I was writing. I am happy to know that it invites multiple readings.
So often I have no plan at all when I work with a word list!
Well, apparitions are generally meant to be sinister, (and indeed, mine is all of that.) But I did feel a lightness to yours--maybe that's what I needed to see.
DeleteAnd who needs a plan? ;_)
Ack! I think a similar thing has happened to me a time or two and it was very scary!!!! Wonderfully done. The words took me in a dismal direction. Sigh. But here it is, such as it is:

Sorry to tap into painful memories there, Sherry. This was a strangely dark write.
DeleteThank you for sharing your link.
Here is mine... I think I managed to use all the words https://brudberg.me/2020/01/01/phoenix/
ReplyDeleteWow! That's great! thanks for participating, Bjorn!
DeleteWhat a way to begin 2020!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI do hope it will be a good year for poetry writing.
DeleteLike Hedge, I was kept awake by idiots celebrating New Year's Detroit-style, with automatic weapons fire. Fun. I will try to write for this nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteGood grief! Sounds rather apocalyptic!
DeleteThis is exquisitely drawn, Kerry!!❤️ I love; "I am your yearning. Made of flesh and memory, so close, my scent is upon you." Wowww!!😍
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sanaa.
DeleteAh, so it was you!
ReplyDeleteHaha! Perhaps...
DeleteNo wonder indeed! I hadn't wanted to read yours until I had written my own, but your poem is ethereal and as solid as a punch, all at once. I love it.
ReplyDeleteHere is my scribble:

Right back at you. Your apparition of past love does credit to the list of words in a far more subtle way.
DeleteHello Kerry- Happy New Year! Joining in: https://charmedchaos.com/2020/01/02/perspective/
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining in, Linda.
DeleteI so love how well the last line (and the whole poem, really) describes the mixture of despair and delight that fills a heart at that crucial moment, at that instant when body and soul figure out that what is holding the world together is no longer there. This will go under my Poems that Leave Me Panting list.
ReplyDeleteYay! My work here is done....
DeleteThank you for your IG poem.. you crunched the words down to the meaty bits!
Oh, life often places us striding an event, emotion, change. It is a magical journey of becoming our hope with muddy images clinging to our thoughts. Love this poem!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susie. I like it more than I did at first. Reading the commentary has helped me view it from different angles.
DeleteI sank into this and never wanted to climb out!
ReplyDeleteIt is the yearning, I believe, that we all feel for what has been lost.
DeleteI have finally managed to piece something together here:

Such a brilliant piece, Joy. Thank you!
DeleteI am in total awe of your poem. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI am reminded of the Mare, as in Nightmare. Folklore being who rode men and horses until exhaustion. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mare_(folklore)
The word list spoke to me so here's my piece.

I am the voice in your dreams, I am your dreams...this poem makes me weep with longing.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry for your loss, Toni.
DeleteThings are getting rather meta around here, as I share my link to the second poem I wrote to my own prompt.
ReplyDeleteHaha!
The only rule is there are no rules.
