I am an optical illusion.
This is me, witch of the first star.
This star of the first illusion,
an optical witch is me. I am.
I am an illusion of the first star.
Optical witch, this is me.
An optical illusion, I am this witch:
star of the first is me.
This optical star is an illusion
of the first witch. Am I me?
I am the first star. This witch
of an optical illusion is me.
Written for Kim's amazing challenge: The Uncertainty of the Poet.
Your poem leaves my head full of images of stars and witches shining and fading and sparkling again. This is fun.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely! Thank you, Magaly. I love a mind full of stars.
Delete:)
I love this self portrait in words and ink. Love!
ReplyDeleteLove!
DeleteSo awesome, Kerry. I especially love “Am I me?”
ReplyDeleteIt is always a good question, isn't it?
DeleteThis is so elegant, Kerry!❤️ Each word carved as though a diamond and place carefully in sequence. I must confess I was in absolute awe 😍😍 You inspired me to attempt the form.
ReplyDeleteI am happy to know that, Sanaa. This was a fun way to work with words.
DeleteGorgeous. "Witch of the first star." So beautiful, not easy to accomplish with this challenge, which lends itself more easily to humour.
ReplyDeleteSomething magical about the first star.. but is it really there at all?
DeleteAre you a Good Witch or a sandwich? as my friend once asked me. Self-knowledge is the key, and if it is, then not being sure if you are you presents an entry-level dilemma, or dilemna as I was taught to spell it before the Mandela Effect kicked in. In any event, as Sinatra sang, there's no nicer witch than you.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Shay. So many observations from this write makes me happy.
DeleteI feel sure I have a witch in my ancestral line, let us say neither good nor bad, just a part of the sacred feminine.
I'm... lost for words. Wow, such a good poem!
ReplyDeleteMy sincere thanks.
DeleteI am with Shay. Are you a good witch or a sandwich? Interesting take on the prompt.
ReplyDeleteSee my reply above.
DeleteWhat a great presentation in having the first line being illustrated by your sketch (the optical illusion of yourself). So which is really you the photo with wind blown hair or the sketch of how you see yourself? Brilliant!
ReplyDeleteAm I me?
DeleteYes you are! (Stage magic is optical illusion; in real witchery, words make it true.)
ReplyDeleteOf course, and my sincere appreciation for your insights.
DeleteNo doubt about it ... you are you, a talented first star.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great comment, Helen.

I love the way your poem twirls like a star, Kerry. I think we poets are optical witches. The final lines sparkle.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kim. It was an awesome challenge.
DeleteHow wonderful to be first star... not an illusion at all.. love all this twists.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, Bjorn.
