Even This Twilight

We have lost even this twilight.
Pablo Neruda

A green gloom pervades
this lilypad hiatus
where we hover
above water
below sky
like dragonflies
who have lost
their sense of direction.
We, who have chosen
to be blind
to each other,
see yet where tendrils
of the past grow
and we cling, wings inert
too afraid
of what it means to let go.

Beekeeping

The Beekeeper
Cat Schappach
@catschappach

The bees have all left this country.
But the equinoctial garden does not know.
Its buds beckon with cupped hands.
The maladroit keeper is scrubbing the hive.
He picks at old wax like an eczema scab.

This country has lost all its queens.
But the hegemons do not seem to notice.
The flowers shrivel, suspecting their infertility.
And its women are arranged in agricultural order.
Womb first, and head last, the last honey spilled.

This amazing work of art was a gift from the amazingly talented Cat Schappach.

Perennial

Kerry O'Connor
@skyloverpoetry

Was I born for this? To blossom
for every wandering bee to take but never give
me a taste of the honey in return
 – my colours fade –
I have been halved and cored
all my bitter seeds spilled on infertile ground
but there is juice for hummingbirds
 – how they shine –
feeding on my perennial soul.

I am doubling up on Marian's marvellous prompts of this week: Juice! and Halved! in a Flash 55!

Direction

A quote as inspiration...

I have lost my sense of direction.

Once, like every little bee
with her magnetic heart, I knew

which way was north, could navigate
my flight through hurricanes, locate your open arms
in honeyed nights, and sleep despite the sting.
