You & I (How Late the Day)

How late is the day
when you come to me?
I wake from dreams

to dream
of you.

How darkly burns fire
when you whisper my name?
I reach from the world

to a world
with you.

How sweet is salt
when I taste your skin?
You take me from myself

to myself
in you.

You and Me, in 55 Words

I have died to myself
and I live for you.
Rumi

    1. Thanks, Gillena. Not a form, as such. I wrote it after a reading of Rumi's verses. (Looking for some romantic inspiration.)

  2. The way you tied the dreams and how reality comes into the salt... delicious writing, and the sense of two person merging into one.

  3. Yes, nothing wintry about this one--the contrasts work especially well, and a merge of reality and dream never hurts in life,in my opinion--it's a hard place without dreams. So glad you could participate, Kerry.

  5. Some ghosts burn -- "I reach from the world / to a world / with you." This is tempered and sharpened to plunge all the way through to that shade. Incredible, Kerry.
