Because of you, I love simplicity –
the flower of strawberry
five white petals that fall too soon
as I love the green certainty of fruit
in knowledge that summer returns
I love the simple courage of your hands –
I place upon your open palm
the sweet ripe berry of my heart
Because of you, love –
Because it's Friday, and time for Flash 55! Any one else who would like to participate, please add your link in the comments section below... and let's have a Kick-Ass Weekend for Galen & Hedgewitch, in her absence.
that's sweet.
ReplyDeletethank whoever for deleting my post at RT. I didn't play right with the prompt (this poem is...), and then made mine private so it wouldn't conflict. i've tweaked the pen and republished it now that it's off the list there.
You rampaging scofflaw, grapeling!
DeleteHey, YOU'VE skewered and scoured me in the past for making a mistake on the prompt, Miss Private Blog and Now Mistress of the Dark!
DeleteoOOooo! I always wanted to be Elvira! Check out my 55 and you'll find my new home. (But Word Garden is open again, if idle, because people howled.)
DeleteAnd...skewered and scoured? I never.
DeleteAlmost never.
I sowwy.
If I may interrupt.. I would like to know who deleted your post. It certainly wasn't me, since many poems went off at a tangent of their own, which worries me not one little bit.
DeleteWasn't me.
Deletedunno. i tried the linky tool but there were no posts listed at 2 am or whenever that was, so couldn't delete it myself.
Deletesince the 55 as a form is restrictive enough, i didn't want to be a literalist and tell, using up 4 words (this poem is a), instead wanting to just show instead (these are fricative grunts). but I suppose there's no pleasing some people.
Your poem pleases me.. So I have taken the liberty of pasting the link here, just for the record.

and just stopping in to note - it wasn't me either - I don't believe it's up to anyone other than the prompt host to determine what's what ... so, just to save you any rightfully pointed and direct questions.
DeleteI loved your berry being placed in our hands! Thank you so much :)
ReplyDeleteTee hee. Ditto. :)
DeleteThis is sweet, if i dare say such an obvious thing about a strawberry-laden poem. I like it very much, and love seeing the printed versions of your work, Kerry.

I am so swooning over the first three lines. This reminds me how good poetry can make me feel --- sweet and light, like whipped cream.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful what you did in the last line: "Because of you, love –" ... Calling him/her Love, but also saying that he/she is the reason love exists.
Like I said, "Swoon ..."
I knew you would know how to read the last line.
DeleteSo beautiful. I love "the sweet red berry of my heart" so much!
ReplyDeleteHard to include strawberries in a poem without sounding contrived. Thanks, Sherry.
DeleteI place upon your open palm
ReplyDeletethe sweet ripe berry of my heart
Such a compromising situation that one loves to hear from the other.
Hank
I'm like just sitting with this - because it's not overripe, this poem. (I can't stand sloppy sentiment) and hell, this just delivers with an amazing impact Kerry. There isn't a word and/or phrase that I don't like. Brilliant. Just brilliant. Super 55!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Pat. Given I had such nice strawberries, and wanted to add one to my photo, I struggled with this poem. Strawberries are so cliched, and in all honestly, I have never had the good fortune to be in a simple relationship.
DeleteI am glad you found some authenticity in the images - I tried to get that right.
