Tarot Suite ~ The Magician

Let the wind die down. Let the shed
go black inside. Let evening come.

The Magician

Let the flame rain from sky
as consorts of creation. Let the earth
be as a womb awaiting conception.

Let the storm plunge its hands
into the ocean. Let the night
invite the stars to bloom.

Let the honeybee find the flower.
Let the wind sleep. Let the seed grow
in the heart of god. Let sun awaken.

Let us be without fear of manifestation.
Life quickens even as it dies, so let it come.
Let mantis become man.

Work still continues on my African Tarotscape Deck. This is my latest piece with accompanying poem, inspired by 'Let Evening Come' by Jane Kenyon.

Initiation

Shamans are said to die when they enter the spirit world through trance.

It begins with a smoky haze,
the sound of your own feet stamping
and tongue clicks reverberant
in your mind drawing you entranced
to the sandstone cave of your ancestors.

ǀKágge̥n rises as a shadow
thrown against the wall of your mind,
an indelible figure of hooked claws
remorselessly ripping to shreds
barriers of sanity to be let in.

With glassine eyes, he turns
to observe your fear and hungrily,
consumes the twisted dreams
churned in blood and ash of this reality:
Man is the Mantis incarnate.

This poem was inspired by the art of Quincy Washington, whose 'Blossom Hunter' mantis can be seen on Instagram @albanusdesign and can also be seen on my @skyloverpoetry page.

The Darkest Matter

Belobog & Chernobog
Anarh1a
Used With Permission

Chernobog is the darkest matter,
haggard falcon god loathed for his permeation
of the universe, his refusal to be discovered –
We feel him uncontained within
our own wretched organic selves, closer
than baryonic heartrate and fleshly parts –

And this, we fear: our concept of person
exists in a void of inner space, an abyss of endless
foreboding that we are not here at all –
We cower behind the features
of fierce animals, we drink from the same cup,
cursing in the name of every god we know –

But art requires heart and a handhold
on sacred knowledge, that both dark and light
manifest an inherent duality of soul –
Thus we strap jesses to Belobog’s ankles,
tame the white falcon to hunt for redemption
in the lower worlds of our unconscionable minds –

Unperfection

Under the overturned lute with its
One string I am going my way
Which has a strange sound
W.S. Merwin

Once a god gaped
and regurgitated the cosmos.

I wipe the spittle of stars
from my eyes

wondering about my designated place –
why particles of the air shift

around my lack of importance
and my unperfection.

There was a plan once
but I was never part of it –

neither heaven nor earth
were moved for me.

Chrysalis

Cabbage Tree Emperor Moth caterpillars

in the beginning

chrysalis

darkly coiled
singularity
                         when nothing
                         was everything

then time
then space
then matter

                         emerging
from the infinitesimal
cocoon spinning
gravity

a cosmic moth
                         expanding
its black wings
and birthing stars

each a single
egg hatching
destined to be

chrysalis

For Bjorn's Weekend Prompt in The Imaginary Garden.

I love to write about creation myths, and to imagine how the universe began in a poetic way. Sometimes thinking poetically is the easiest way to make sense of the inexplicable science of the universe.. which all comes down to one's own tiny back garden. These two Cabbage Tree Emperor Moth caterpillars I saved from the road today made me think again how unique our planet is in the cosmos, how worth saving.
