I have on a mask in order to write my last words,
and they are just for you
Anne Sexton
I have almost nothing left to say;
few thoughts dash themselves
against the unseen rocky shores
of my own disquietude –
Every word of my life, I bequeath
to you, and all that I have ever been
I lay at your feet to grow or die;
Abandon me to solitude –
Day 30 ~ EPITAPH
Anmol is our host in The Imaginary Garden on the final day of April.
It has been an awesome month of prompts and poetry, and I believe that my own writing has gone through a renewal process. I am so grateful for all the support of my fellow toads and friends, and for the immeasurable sources of inspiration without which many of these poems would not have been written. Having said that, I will definitely be taking some time off to reflect and edit my work.

thanks for all you do, Kerry ~
ReplyDeleteAnd I thank you, Michael. It's good to have people 'out there' who get me.. and your response to my poems mean a whole lot more than you might imagine.
DeleteI can feel the solitude that follows. I have felt like this many times. A good closing for the month of writing. I try to write a poem once a week!
ReplyDeleteI've loved reading you, Kerry.
ReplyDeleteI think my own work has benefited unusually this April, too
I think we have all grown!
DeleteIt has been a grand old April. Thank you for your contribution to it, Kerry, as without Toads many of my poems wouldnt have been written, either.
ReplyDeleteA grand old April indeed. Not soon to be forgotten.
DeleteIt's indeed a blissful solitude that will follow after the amazing month we have had in the Garden. Thank you for everything that you do, Kerry!❤️
ReplyDeleteThank you for everything you have dine to make April a splendid month of poetry.
DeleteNah, I'm going to hang out and empty your refrigerator. Mind if I wear your shirt? These cd's look good...Imma put 'em in my car. What?
ReplyDeleteThank you for making the garden such a great place for all these years, friend.
Some people...(rolls eyes) Hehe!
DeleteBeautiful — that first line just got me into the flow of it — it's such a calming and hopeful month-end verse. It's been a pleasure reading your penmanship like always. You so inspire me with your words, Kerry! :-)
ReplyDeleteAlso, thank you for spearheading the exercise on WRT!
The pleasure has been all mine, Anmol. Thank you for your contribution.
DeleteI wonder at the last lingering thoughts, floating on the tide with seaweed. I wonder if their rough edges will tumble into smoothness. But time and quiet are needed for that, and there is much to admire that made it to the shore.
ReplyDeleteThese words will stay with me. Thank you, Rommy.
DeleteIf we don't silence ourselves, we don't give our words a chance to digest.
ReplyDeleteI am so thankful for your poetry, for all you do in the garden. My life as a poet changed when I came across Real Toads. You are such an inspiration.
ReplyDeleteWe inspire each other, which is why we are indefatigable!
DeleteI know your poetry makes me think about mine differently. I am thankful to alk the Toads who worked to make this 30 in 30 a success and to those whi started but couldn't finish. This epitaph is perfect for the last day of NAPIWRIMO. Your poem speaks volumes in its brevity. We all need that solitude at times.
ReplyDeleteThat is good to know. Thank you, Toni.
DeleteKerry- I have so enjoyed getting to know you more through your beautiful words. This is a perfect last day of April poem.
ReplyDeleteI do hope you've left those words, used though they are. to a very responsible person. I would love to have them. My vocabulary is pretty well stocked for up to five letter words but suffers for a prize winning number for higher than that.
DeleteI consider you as the head teacher but I learn from all the Toads willing to teach. I won't name because I will miss some. The Engineer in me comes out when new to me forms are presented. I also like the art used for inspiration.
..
Thank you to both Linda and Jim. It has been a wonderful month of poetry.
DeleteWow.. congratulations on NaPoWriMo and the set of illustrated poems you did just before that... terrific work.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks, Rajani.
DeleteYour month of poetry produced a manuscript. Finesse and finish with this fine button of an epitaph for lover and poet.
ReplyDeleteEvery manuscript of poetry and love requires an epilogue.
DeleteThank you, B.
With an end like this I feel it's a new beginning.
ReplyDeleteSomewhere, somehow, it begins again...
DeleteAll good things come to an end, which is a good time to take a breath. I like the thought of those few remaining thoughts dashing themselves against the unseen rocky shores before abandoning oneself to solitude.
ReplyDeleteThank you for organising Poems in April and keeping them coming, Kerry. I’ve loved all the prompts and reading the poems. It’s just a shame that I’m late with reading and commenting on the poems from the last few days.
I will be the eyeballs hovering on the other side of your window, teeth creepily bright, waiting... for you to bring out the poetry.
ReplyDeleteI love this request, so very much.
We all need to breathe deeply and take a rest. Enjoyed your poetry all this month, Kerry.
