Leo Rising

Emperor of the Dawn
Quincy Washington
@albanusdesign

I am the conqueror
who set fire to the eastern gate
of this temple mount at my birth.

Reincarnation of the huntress,
I clawed my way from the furnace
of heaven’s dark cauldron to freedom.

I am the carnivore,
noble and savage, who wields both
tooth of logic and sword of integrity.

Embodiment of feline temptress,
I have composed my dangerous heart
to forge a golden mask of wild seduction.

I am the captivator,
charismatic and brave, ever-seeking
to discover the quest Divinity insists of me.

  1. This is the stuff of legends. She knows her power. I pity the souls that get in her way.

  2. Love it! This states the superority of Woman in her most primal form.feline temptress...as a cat lover who loves big and small cats, I particularly relate to this. Fierce, seductive, killing machine. Perfect take on the picture.

    1. Thanks, Toni.. I did want to add many cat-like traits into the description. I'm happy they came across.

  3. The time I saw this mask, I thought, Treasure. But your poem shows its heart to me in images of flesh and bone and spirit. Now I see the warrior, the lover, and the eternal more...

    1. How interesting! I didn't see it as a mask, but as a primal force breaking through into our world.

  4. This was just plain fun to write to, wasn't it Kerry. Fun reading them all too, yours is great. I like the end, when we find that a Divinity had the writer hunting for the differing character traits. "Temptress" causes cold shivers.

    1. I did not think that a temptress would be so fearful, but I guess one should proceed with caution.

  5. Being a Leo myself, your poem is more than appealing, Kerry. I’m glad you made your lion female, a reincarnation of the huntress. I love the contrast of light and dark of the furnace and the cauldron, and noble and savage, and the brightness of the ‘golden mask of wild seduction’.

    1. Nothing like a Leo woman! I am glad the description rings true to form. Thanks, Kim.

  6. As a Leo male, I pity da fool who doesn't calibrate his gambits to the female Leo roar. Nailed it pretty sure here. Last two stanzas pile magic on truth. Very noble craft.

    1. Ah.. that explains a lot. Hehe. Leo is my ascendant sign, though, a potent combo nonetheless with my Gemini sun. I am proud of the magical truths. Thank you.

It seems to have some elements of respectability to its frightful make-up. Logic and integrity are great hints, Kerry!

  8. There's such a sophistication in the description here; noble, savage, ...you wove this together beautifully.

  9. Ah but...I know you are not a Leo! ;-) This does indeed have a mythic feel to it, and a an undeniable power, Kerry.
