Entrances//Deaths ~ Deaths

In the April of Covid 19
Day 30

“And all your deeds and words, each truth, each lie, die in unjudging love.”
Dylan Thomas

Deaths

Words
I have sought to
convey pass only as shadows,
Beloved, across your sleeping face
in patterns of fern, feather, constellations
of life’s common comorbidities, griefs, graves:
history of these last weeks penned in poetic obituaries
carved on tombstones while angels keep company
with princes of the underworld, salting tears.
The last thing I will say before death
or dawn claims both our lives:
Mercy is an act of
Love.

  1. So many deaths at the moment, and none of them the ones we’d wish for. I’m glad your poem about deaths is a beautiful ode to ‘poetic obituaries carved on tombstones’.

    1. I do believe the real history of this time will be written in the obituaries, not broadcast to the world.

  2. Oh my aching heart this is beautiful!💘 Especially like; "pass only as shadows, Beloved, across your sleeping face
in patterns of fern, feather, constellations," such a deep and poignant write!💘

  5. Eloquent in every nuance, this poem evokes many kinds of shadows, of mood, of experience, of time and the heart, reminding me of the ever-moving shadows which boughs and leaves throw across one's path in a summer forest--full of a secret life yet also sharing it. You end a month of high notes at the harmonious top of your register. Thanks for all you have written, and all you have done to encourage the rest of us to write in this most difficult of Aprils, Kerry.

    1. I must thank you most sincerely, Joy. Your in-depth readings and generous responses have really kept me inspired. What one writes in April is always a group effort, and in a month of social distancing for many of us, it has been even more welcome.

Mercy is an act of Love.

Cannot be anything better or appropriate! Words difficult to come by in trying times but when it did come it overwhelm. Rightly so!
How's the going Kerry Ma'am? Stay safe!

  8. Oh, the notes carved on stone tell so much in their brevity. There has been so much death over the last few months from covid 19. I grieve for those I've never met. Your poem is a beautiful ending to a month of amazing poetry from your pen.
