Question
To be or not
to begin if beginning
means to forgive the living
and the dead, the sunfoil moon
and the sun itself for rising,
to beg the bird
for birdsong and time
when it unfolds
what plaited cunning hides
in its dark inheritances,
to wake or not
to shatter eyesight with sight
of terror twisting grief
every question unresolved
of this mortal dream?

I like the way this poem flows, Kerry, and the especially love ‘the sunfoil moon’ and the lines:
ReplyDelete‘…time
when it unfolds
what plaited cunning hides
in its dark inheritances’.
Thank you, Kim.
DeleteWonderful in its own right, and also very Shakespearean.
ReplyDeleteThe quotes I chose set the tone for sure! Thank you, Rosemary.
DeleteThis is gorgeous - to forgive the living and the dead, to beg the bird for birdsong and time......just wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you liked it, Sherry. Thank you.
DeleteThis is absolutely exquisite, Kerry!💘 I love; "to beg the bird for birdsong and time when it unfolds what plaited cunning hides in its dark inheritances, to wake or not." Such excellent wordsmiting 😃 with thanks to Shakespeare ofcourse!
ReplyDeleteYes, Shakespeare was THE Wordsmith!
DeleteA powerful write...once again. These words are especially hard-hitting for me
ReplyDelete"to shatter eyesight with sight"
There is so much there in those words. And it makes me "jump" to other places....when the naivete of a child is stripped away...You always make me think and connect and think again. I know sometimes it is not the meaning you intended ....but I think when a write affects someone so they connect in some way, that is very good.
I am very happy to know that my poetry has individual meaning. That is what we all hope for as writers - to tap into the well of human experience and portray something universal.
DeleteWow! You managed Shakespeare with your own ability to create the art of words.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susie.
DeleteWow! So shakesperean and so powerful. Especially -
ReplyDeleteto shatter eyesight with sight
Yes, some things are very difficult to witness.
DeleteTheatre I work in had to shut down production of 'Shakespeare in Hollywood' ... this makes me yearn for healthy days and nights at the theatre. Beautiful write.
